Description
This walk visits the interesting and not-so-often visited area North of the Altar Room (a deep slot in the ridge that separates Little Capertee and Canobla Creeks, near Newnes). Rather than going through the Altar room we go around it. From Newnes we head West up Little Capertee Creek and then ascend steeply up to the hanging valley below the Altar Room. We then traverse West and North, emerging on the spur that separates the Western and Eastern parts of Canobla Creek. From there we descend an easy slot to the East and traverse around the Northern side of Mount Tricky to Cathedral Pass, from where it is a long and steep but not difficult descent back to Newnes. Around 6 hours of walking, almost all off-track, a few scrubby patches (nothing too bad), little or no scrambling and no exposure.
